Talbot Humane Thanks Dancing for the Dogs!

Dancing for the Dogs was held on Saturday March 10, 2012 at the Historic Tidewater Inn.  The event was amazing and so successful!

Because of the overwhelming community support, Talbot Humane, Caroline Humane, and Bay Water Animal Rescue each received $15,000 from the event.  The money will be used for spay/neuter services and medical needs of the animals in our care!

Talbot Humane wishes to thank those who made the evening such a success!  The Dancing for the Dogs team, led by chairwoman Amanda Showell-Cook and Co-chair Peggy Geisler, the dancers- professional and celebrity, sponsors, donors and all who came out and generously gave in order to support Talbot Humane, Caroline Humane and Bay Water Animal Rescue.   We are already looking forward to year 2- Saturday March 9, 2013,  again at the Tidwater Inn!

For information on this year’s event or how to get involved next year, please visit:  www.dancingforthedogs.com

It is true, if we all do what we can, we make a HUGE difference together.

#100K Challenge and our community

Tank is a member of the Quimby crew and an alumni of Talbot Humane. He really wishes he could vote...

This contest has been fascinating.  We started by entering in the 11th hour in hopes to even be chosen to vie for funds for the animals.  After some paperwork, faxes, emails and a phone interview (all within about 48 hours) we were in the running!  The next step was to engage our community.  I have to say, it has been exciting to see so many people getting the vote out for Talbot Humane!  We have people voting in California, Washington State, Texas, Florida, Canada, China and Japan to name just a few areas from around the world where we have supporters!  Your Facebook and Twitter messages have kept us all smiling.  All because you believe in our mission, have witnessed the dedication of our staff and volunteers and know we truly care about the animals.   It is inspiring to all of us at Talbot Humane to be “hanging with the big boys” in the top 50!  The fact we are competing against MANY shelters which are larger and in more metropolitan areas, yet still in the running totally rocks.

We are in the last leg of the qualifying heat and really need everyone to vote everyday through Monday at midnight.  We so hope we make it into the final competition where we will be in the running for cash for the critters.   From August 1- October 31, 2012 we will be competing with our numbers from last year to save more lives.  If you are asking yourself  “don’t you do this everyday?” It’s true!  We are always striving to do better than we did yesterday, last week, last month or last year.  The benefit of this contest, we may just win funds by doing so!

I thank everyone who has been supporting our efforts in this contest, and for bringing the community together to support Talbot Humane- it’s been fun!  If we don’t win, we will be a little sad, but, you know what?  We are a lucky organization to have friends like you supporting us everyday.  Your support makes it possible for Talbot Humane to do great things for the animals.

Now, Get to voting friends!

Until there are none, adopt one~

Patty Crankshaw-Quimby

UPDATE TUESDAY APRIL 17TH!

We qualified for competition FOR THE BIG BUCKS! YOUR votes made a difference and your help is going to SAVE LIVES!  More info to come as we receive it on how our community can get involved in our efforts to win funds for our area pets!

For the animals,

Patty

Help Us Win The ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge!

We have made it to the Qualifying Heat for the

ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge!

TALBOT HUMANE is the only  shelter on Maryland’s Eastern Shore to make it into the qualifying heat of the ASPCA $100K Save More Lives Challenge, one of 108 shelters nationwide. It’s a competition that inspires shelters and their communities to come up with innovative ways to save at least 300 more dogs and cats within a three-month period than were saved during the same three months the year before. And we could win between $5,000 and $125,000! Our staff and volunteers are raring to take a shot at saving more lives than before. That’s where you come in.

The only way for Talbot Humane to get into the 100K challenge is for you – our community – to vote for us. We need a lot of votes because out of 108 shelters vying to get into the Challenge, only 50 are going to be accepted, and they’re the ones with the most votes from their community.
From April 5 to April 16, we need you to go to VoteToSaveLives.org and cast your vote for Talbot Humane EVERY DAY.  Send the link to family and friends and tell them to vote so we can save more lives. It takes less than a minute and your passion to get us into position to save at least 300 more lives this year…and to win BIG for the animals!

 UPDATE:

TUESDAY APRIL 17th-

WE MADE IT TO THE NEXT ROUND!

Enclosure Sponsorships Benefit Spay Neuter Program

We are elated to pass along the news that our 2011 Enclosure Sponsorship Program raised $11,050 for the animals.  We launched the campaign last year by offering local businesses, friends and families a unique opportunity to put their name on a safe, comfortable enclosure at the shelter to house animals waiting for their forever homes. The response has been so gratifying that it is our hope to double the amount we raise in 2012- already reaching over $11,500 as of February 2012!

In the year ahead, we will dedicate the funds contributed by enclosure sponsors to the Talbot Humane Spay Neuter program. With your help, not only will every animal leaving our adoption center be altered, we will be able to continue providing low-cost spay neuter service to our community. Your support will bring us one step closer to meeting our goal of preventing unwanted litters which will reduce the number of animals coming through our doors each year.

Sponsors receive:

  •  A highly visible plaque with your name, to be displayed at your sponsored area  (all sponsorships expire December 31, 2012)
  • Acknowledgement in our newsletter and on our website
  • Grateful hearts of the animals your sponsorship will help!

We hope that you will choose to sponsor an enclosure at Talbot Humane. To do this simply download the Sponsorship form 2012 here and return  to our office.  By considering this opportunity your donation will be local, simple, direct, visible, and immediately effective.

Your gift will make a difference.

Hair O’ The Dog Chili Cook-Off and Tasting for Talbot Humane

“The Dog” Helps The Dogs and Cats at Talbot Humane!

Hair O’ The Dog will be holding its first (hopefully of many!) staff chili contest for the benefit of Talbot Humane.  On Friday, February 17,  5-7 P, three members of the Dog staff will be serving chili concocted (with love) using their own family recipes.  They will also  hand-select a wine or beer that goes especially well with their dish.  Your job is to stop in to Hair O’ The Dog at 219 Marlboro Avenue #52A, Easton, MD 21601 and sample all three entries.  Then“vote” for your favorite by putting a donation in the jar of the person you think has the best combination.  All “votes” (proceeds) will come directly to Talbot Humane!   In addition, The Dog will donate 10% of any sales proceeds from the wines or beers on the tasting bar that night.  So come out have some fun and help “the Dog” raise money for a great cause- the animals of our area!
Oh, we almost forgot to mention the last piece of the contest is that the creator of the winning chili will win a shift vacation from the Dog.  Their boss is gonna work the winner’s shift of choosing.  So please come out help your favorite staffer and support a great cause all at the same time!

One Step Closer

One Step Closer

Generation Humane

Humane Education is an important program for Talbot Humane.  The ultimate goal says Executive Director Patty Quimby  is to raise the next generation to be Generation Humane.  Thanks to a grant from The Social Justice Committee from the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Easton, and the youth in their Religious Education Class, along with funds from the Talbot Humane Education Fund, we are one step closer.  110 age appropriate books relating to empathy for animals and the human animal bond have been purchased and will soon be distributed to each school in Talbot County.  “Our hope is the children of our community will find joy in reading, and joy in these stories  which share how important animals  are to our lives.” states Quimby.
